2. What kind of questions is usually asked on the surveys?

3. What is a focus group?

You can also participate in a “Focus Group,” which is a team of people just like you that have been selected researchers to discuss and comment on the topic that is the subject of the research. Just like surveys, you simply share your opinions and discuss them with others.

Focus groups are often held online via special communication or chat systems, but they also take place in the "real" world as well. If you are interested in participating in these types of focus groups, we show you how - and you can often earn up to $150 per hour for doing so!

Focus Groups are usually a more lengthy process - lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours or longer. As with surveys, the compensation rises along with the participation necessary. The thing to remember is this: You always know the specifics up front and you pick the ones you like!

4.How long does surveys and focus groups usually take?

Surveys are generally made up of anywhere from 20-50 questions - some multiple choices and some that allow you to add your personal comments, etc. In general, the more time it is expected to take to complete the survey, the more you will be compensated. Some take only 5 minutes!

5. What computer requirements are needed for taking surveys?

If you are reading this now it means you already have the tools needed to start earning money right now - Internet access and basic web browsing software is all it takes! (You can complete surveys with Windows, Macintosh, or even Web TV.)

6. Can I do this part-time?

Unlike conventional jobs, you set your own pace and your own hours. For instance, if you have an extra 30 minutes in the morning before heading off to work, you can choose a short survey that interests you and complete it without being rushed. Or, if you have a few hours while the kids are at the neighbors, choose a lengthier survey or perhaps a handful of shorter ones. You can expect to be asked for basic information about where you live and your profession. This information helps companies best determine surveys to send you. Even so, never have to provide any information you are not comfortable giving out. Of course, each company does have their own specific privacy policy, and if you are curious or concerned about a specific companies' policy you can read it on the company’s website.

1. How many surveys can I take, and how much money will I make?

There are NO limits to the number of surveys or focus groups you can participate in. Of course, some surveys are specific; therefore, not every participant will "qualify" for every survey. For example, a particular survey might only be open to women between the ages of 25-45 who live in Canada. Another survey might only be open to single men who use cologne, etc. Rest assured, there are more than enough surveys to go around. You simply pick the ones that apply to you, and the ones you are interested in and get right to work.

You can expect to start taking surveys right away - anywhere from a few hours to a few days after you register with a company. However, because many companies send out only a few surveys a month, it will take you a few short weeks to get the ball rolling and participating in numerous surveys.

The good news is you can start this process right now by registering with the companies that most interest you. However, Top Dollar Surveys cannot guarantee you will make a certain amount of money, because this depends solely on the number of surveys you take.

2. Do I need to fit a certain "profile" to take surveys successfully?

Everything about you - where you live, whether you have a job or go to school, what kind of car you drive, whether you are single or married, etc. - makes up your personal "profile".

And this profile is what market research companies use to match you up with the surveys and focus groups that are most applicable to you. After all, there's no sense in wasting anyone's time by sending you a survey about things you have no interest in or experience with.

While your "profile" is one of the most important factors that will determine the type and number of survey invitations you receive, there is no such thing as a "good" or "bad" profile. Each and every person simply has a different profile, as everyone in the world is a little different.

It doesn't matter if you are single or married, have a job or stay at home with the kids, drive a car or ride a bike, flunked out of school or have a Master's degree - because everyone's opinions are valuable to the market research companies and the clients that hire them.

So the short answer is "no" - you do not need to worry about fitting a certain profile in order to get paid for your opinions. If you are 18 years of age or older, this is for you.
3.Are there any requirements I should be aware of?

The information you provide in your profile (everything from your marital status and your education to what you drive) will help companies decide what surveys and focus groups most apply to you. Past that, you need only be 18 years of age to participate.

Additionally, it is not required that you live in the U.S. or Canada. As we mentioned before, some surveys will be very specific and, as an example, may call for a group of women ages 25-45 who live in Canada. Even so, there are more than enough survey opportunities to go around – for all participants in any geographic location and of any background.

We can't tell you exactly how many surveys you'll get on a weekly or monthly basis, because that depends on many outside factors we have no control over, but we hear from members outside the U.S. all the time who are shocked at the number of surveys available.

4. Do I get paid by the hour? On a per-survey basis? And how much?

Some focus group participants are paid by the hour; however, you can expect your pay to usually be based on the number of surveys you complete. Most companies will pay you cash, but some will give you free products, gift certificates, a chance to win bigger prizes, or "points" to be redeemed for products, cash, etc. This will be specified upfront so you can decide what works best for you.

5. Can you tell me how often and who will pay me?

Each time you participate in a survey, focus group, or other paid opportunity, the company that provides or sponsors the event will pay you directly. These are often market research firms hired by other companies - both large and small - to do various types of market research on their behalf.

Payments are usually issued in U.S. funds. If you live outside the U.S., deposit these payments with your bank or other financial institution and they will convert the U.S. funds to your local currency for you.

When and how you're compensated depends on the specific opportunity you participate in. Some companies pay instantly online via PayPal, while others send checks in the mail, etc. Again, you are made aware of the specifics upfront – every time – so you determine what’s best for you and what you want to participate in.

6. Do I have to pay taxes on the money I make?

If you're a U.S. citizen, you will be classified as an "independent contractor," which means income tax is NOT withheld from your pay. Any company that pays you over $600 in a calendar year is required to send you a Form 1099, and you will need to include this as "miscellaneous income" on your tax return.

Paypal is an online payment portal, which allows money to be sent and received through email addresses. You will have the option of working with companies that send payment via Paypal, as only a handful do. Again, you can determine your participation based on these details – all of which are provided upfront.

7. How soon after I sign-up can I get started and make some money?

Some people start receiving surveys within a few of hours, but the average wait is usually at least a few days. It really depends on your "profile", and which companies you register with.
